Discovery Health Journalist of the Year: Mia Malan
Prior to this she was a health journalism lecturer at Rhodes University and a Knight HealthJournalism Fellow based in Johannesburg.
Mia set up the first health journalism programme of the media development organisation,Internews Network, in Kenya in 2003, and was the organisation’s Senior Health Journalism Advisor in Washington, DC between 2006 and 2009.
Prior to this, Mia was the SABC’s radio and television healthcorrespondent. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the CNN Africa Radio Journalist ofthe Year, the Sikuvile Commentary and Analysis Award in 2011 and the SA Press Club’s 2013 awards forboth print and radio features.
