Discovery Bank brings Google Pay to clients

Johannesburg, 23 August 2022 – Discovery Bank today announced the launch of Google Wallet, which gives clients fast, secure access to their Discovery Bank cards and uses the power of Google to protect every transaction. The collaboration also lets clients tap to pay everywhere Google Pay is accepted, use loyalty cards, board a flight, and more – all with just their Android phone or supported Wear OS device. 

Google Pay is a safe and convenient way to pay and make secure purchases in stores, in apps, and on the web. Google Wallet is the place where clients can store their bank credit or debit cards and so use them with Google Pay, as well as loyalty cards, boarding passes, and other items. Clients can simply hold their Android or supported WearOS device near a payment terminal to make a contactless payment. 

Google Pay is accepted in grocery stores, pharmacies, e-hailing services, restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, and many more places. Each purchase is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode, as well as a onetime unique dynamic security code. 

In addition, each client’s Google Account comes with built-in security designed to block threats like spam, malware, and viruses, so the Google Wallet data stored in their Google Account is better protected from unauthorised access. This helps prevent fraud if a phone is lost or stolen.

Customers can also use Google Pay to make faster and more convenient purchases in apps or on the web without having to create accounts or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. Google Pay makes it easier to pay for food and grocery deliveries, online shopping, transportation, and parking, among other things. Google Pay can also be used to make payments in apps on Android or WearOS devices.

Discovery Bank clients can now leave their wallets at home and still benefit from our bank’s unique features – such as earning Discovery Miles and market-leading rewards – wherever they go.” 

Google Pay is easy to set up. On an Android phone, simply open the Google Wallet app, tap +, and follow the steps to add Discovery Bank’s credit or debit cards. Once a client adds a card on their phone or OS device, they can start using Google Pay on that device right away. Clients will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by Discovery Bank’s cards.

Google Pay is now in addition to Apple Pay, Garmin Pay and Samsung Pay which Discovery Bank client’s already have access to.
