Active, Healthy Kids now Get Rewarded with Vitality Active Rewards for Kids

JOHANNESBURG, 26 January 2021 | Discovery Vitality is excited to announce the launch of Vitality Active Rewards for Kids, an app-based incentive programme that applies behavioural science to empower parents and caregivers to encourage and support their children, aged 2-13, to engage in health-promoting activities, and enjoy their own rewards for doing so.

Vitality Active Rewards has long been at the centre of Vitality’s leading, science-based behavioural change programme for its millions of members globally. But it’s now easier than ever to get healthier and rewarded as a family.

Kids can now get rewarded and earn Discovery Miles for successfully completing age-appropriate challenges that reinforce healthy behaviour in Globally, children face unique challenges that imperil their health. These include environments that encourage the consumption of energy-dense foods that are high in fat and sugar but low in vitamins, minerals and other healthynutrients, and decreased physical activity levels in part due to the increasingly sedentary nature of recreation such as time spent on social media and in front of screens. As a result, worsening health trends for children and adolescents are seen both globally and in South Africa:four key areas; healthy eating, physical activity, digital awareness, and other crucial activities such as dental care and sleep hygiene. This is especially important as families navigate the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and associated lockdown restrictions. The programme is in addition to Vitality Active Rewards for Teens, which was launched last year.

“Globally, children face unique challenges in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.” says Vitality Head of Wellness, Dr Mosima Mabunda. “These include environments that encourage the consumption of energy-dense foods that are high in fat and sugar but have low nutritional value, decreased physical activity levels and excessive screen time. This has been especially true for young South Africans during the national lockdown. Vitality Active Rewards is a direct response to this reality.”Globally, children face unique challenges that imperil their health. Parents are able to access a profile for each of their children by activating family goals on the main member’s Vitality Active Rewards profile. To ensure digital safety, the child is only able to engage with the app through the parent’s mobile device. Parents and kids can, on the visually vibrant and dynamic platform which features Disney Pixar characters, choose challenges together and redeem trendy and exciting rewards from partners like Steam, Typo, Kauai, Cotton On, Sony PlayStation and more with their earned Discovery Miles.
