Parkrun and Discovery Vitality invite all runners and walkers to celebrate World Move for Health Day this Saturday 10 May, 2014. Parkrun and Discovery Vitality will be celebrating the day with a special edition parkrun at Modderfontein Reserve. The run starts at 8am and all runners and walkers are encouraged to wear orange, the colour of Vitality to this event.
Entries for the third edition of the Discovery Healthy Company Index will open on 02 May 2014. This, a day after Workers Day, is an opportunity for all South African companies to participate in a survey which looks at the health status of employees and provides valuable insight into how employers can improve health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Following talks between the Nepalese Minister of Tourism and various mountaineering bodies, this year’s Mount Everest expedition has been officially cancelled. Saray Khumalo and Sibusiso Vilane will be returning home after setting off on a journey to climb Mount Everest in an attempt to raise money for The Lunchbox Fund and the Nelson Mandela Bangle Foundation.
Discovery Vitality’s Divisional Manager, Saray Khumalo, and renowned South African mountaineer, Sibusiso Vilane are both safe following last Friday’s avalanche which occurred off the West Shoulder of Mount Everest.
Saray Khumalo, Discovery Vitality Divisional Manager, reached the Everest Base Camp in Khumbu, Nepal on Tuesday, 17 April. She will now start, from Saturday, 19 April her challenging 5 364m ascent up from base camp to the summit of Mount Everest with her climbing partner, Sibusiso Vilane, who is South Africa’s “chief mountaineer.”
