Press release -
Discovery Business Insurance marks Heritage Month with the shortlisting of 7 finalists in Restaurant ReDiscovery competition
23 September 2021 - Discovery Business Insurance together with restaurateur and musician J’Something of Mi Casa, has announced the seven South African restaurants that are all in line win a R25,000 cash injection into their restaurant. On 6 September Discovery Business Insurance launched #RestaurantReDiscovery, inviting restaurant goers to tag their favourite eat out spots on Discovery’s social media pages, and in turn the eatery was required to post a short video of what their restaurant means to them – its purpose, flavour, and heritage.
Videos of the shortlisted restaurants are uploaded on the Discovery YouTube channel. Now, J’Something and Discovery Business Insurance are inviting you to vote for your favourite shortlisted entry. The seven restaurants are:
- Morning Glory Café (Parkwood, Johannesburg)
- Chai & Chow (Sandton City Johannesburg)
- Eat Dessert First (Morningside, Johannesburg)
- Shazmin’s Petite Patisserie (Sandton City)
- Burgundy @ The Venue (Muldersdrift)
- Toast Food Co (Pretoria)
- Dine Inn (Ballito)
The YouTube page with all seven videos can be accessed here. #RestaurantReDiscovery has been well received by the restaurant industry. Restaurant owners on the shortlist are available for media interviews to discuss their restaurant experience, COVID-19 journey and about the competition.
“Over a year ago, the restaurant industry was rocked by the most devastating pandemic in decades. Lives and livelihoods were severely impacted across all sectors of society, including the restaurant industry. Restaurant-owners have remained resilient under difficult trading conditions, including hard lockdowns, lost income and sadly the impact of the loss of life. During Heritage Month as Discovery Business Insurance, we have decided to contribute meaningfully to this sector of the economy that exemplifies our rich heritage as a country. We are hopeful that our support through #RestaurantReDiscovery will benefit not only the winning restaurant but that it will also touch many other lives in the recovery of the economy,” says Discovery Business Insurance Chief Operating Officer, Lana Ross.
As South Africans get themselves fully vaccinated, more of our restaurants can open up again and re-establish their footing in the food industry.
