29 May 2013 - The fifth Discovery Health Journalism Awards were held in Johannesburg today. Mia Malan, Health Editor of the Mail & Guardian, walked away with the Discovery Health Journalist of the Year title.
Mia Malan is the Mail & Guardian’s health editor and director of the M&G Health Journalism Centre, Bhekisisa.
According to Prof Tawana Kupe the Convener of the Independent Judging panel of the Discovery Health Journalism Awards “We are pleased to report that in general the entries this year were all of high quality and an improvement over the previous years. We believe this might mean that the quality of reporting on health issues is improving”.
The deadline for entries into the Discovery Health Journalism Awards has been extended to Friday 8 February. The extension is as a result of technical errors pertaining to online submissions. For more information on the prizes, categories and rules go to www.discovery.co.za/journalismawards.
