Disney Africa launches two new websites for families in collaboration with Discovery Vitality

Disney Africa today announced that it has launched two websites in collaboration with Discovery Vitality – Disney Baby Africa and Disney Healthy Living.

Disney Baby Africa – creating magical moments from the very beginning

Disney Baby Africa offers expecting and new parents information, resources, inspiring ideas and more covering pregnancy, birth and the early years of raising their children. With handy resources to help parents in many areas of their day with their child, from dressing to playtime and beyond, Disney Baby Africa adds a dose of magic to this special time in a family’s life.

Disney Healthy Living.co.za – celebrating healthy and happy families

Parents and caregivers will find the Disney Healthy Living website a useful resource to make healthy eating and physical activity more appealing, simple and fun for their children. The site features engaging recipes, articles, activities and games as well as useful tools and information aimed at a family’s wellbeing. With Disney’s iconic range of characters, kids and parents alike will be able to learn more about nutrition, creating delicious recipes and enjoying activities that involve the whole family.

“One of Disney’s unique qualities is the strength of its emotional connection with families. This stems from the shared Disney experiences families have from their own childhood through to connecting with the characters and stories as adults and parents,” says Christine Service, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for The Walt Disney Company Africa. “The Disney Healthy Living and Disney Baby Africa websites celebrate, support and even inspire new magical family moments. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Discovery Vitality in bringing these online destinations to South Africa.”

“As one of the leading wellness brands in South Africa, Discovery Vitality is continuously looking to engage with members and the broader public on matters of health and wellbeing,” says Dr Craig Nossel, head of Discovery Vitality. “Our collaboration with Disney is an exciting opportunity which helps us to encourage healthy habits, from a young age, into the lives of even more South Africans.”

Both websites will be available from April 2015.

About The Walt Disney Company in Africa

The Walt Disney Company (TWDC), together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with five business segments: media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer products and interactive media group. TWDC is the home of Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel, ABC Studios, ESPN and Lucasfilm.

The Walt Disney Company Africa (TWDCA) has been active across the continent, primarily in South Africa, for over 50 years. TWDCA has three channels on the Multichoice DStv platform which operates across the continent – Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD – and is the leading provider of children’s TV channels in Africa, as well as being one of the top distributors of US programming in the region, bringing network series, movies as well as Disney-branded kids and family content to TV viewers. These include top rating US network ABC Studios series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and How to get away with Murder.

TWDCA’s film distribution arm is a leader for family movies in cinemas and on DVD and Blu Ray. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will release in cinemas on 24 April and features scenes shot in Johannesburg – The first Avengers film had such an effect on the Marvel Brand that subsequent theatrical releases Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World grew their combined box offices by 75% above their predecessors. Recent animated features included Planes: Fire & Rescue, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast and Big Hero 6. The frenzy around Frozen, the biggest animated film of all time worldwide, continues with the release of a 9-minute short, Frozen Fever, which will play in front of the release of live-action film Cinderella in April. In 2014, audiences also welcomed the return of the Disney Classics Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast to DVD and Blu Ray.

Feld Entertainment’s Disney On Ice returns to South Africa in 2015 with Let’s Celebrate! this June & July in Johannesburg and Cape Town. When it debuted in 2012 with Worlds of Fantasy, Disney on Ice sold out the Coca-Cola Dome (Africa’s largest indoor arena) eight times in one weekend, an achievement never-before witnessed.
